| Chanukah Party
The Chanukah Party went well. Two friends of ours (Celeste & Kyle), who are not yet believers in Yeshua, joined us at the Party. Celeste is the kids Art Teacher at the Boys & Girl’s Club. Celeste helped make our dreidle and spent many hours working on it. I dressed up as Dreidle Man, and this will be my yearly costume. Our Chanukah Skit was a big hit with everyone. We also unveiled our 5 foot tall Menorah, which I built with Ravi and Caleb. |
| Rescue Mission This month we’ll have a new office at First Presbyterian Church in Downtown Binghamton. Every Tuesday I am there for the Community Meal and now we’ll have toiletries, some clothing, and possibly other items available there. Our office will be available for Bible Studies and Case Management. Mateo and I began thinking about which clients would benefit from weekly or bi-weekly meetings for Case Management. None of the clients would be mandated to meet with us, so please pray that the people we ask to meet with us, would be willing to do so. We know that if they are willing to do this, we will be able to help them stay on course in doing the things they need to do. An excerpt from one of my Chanukah Teachings - "A Modern Day Maccabee" When people talk about the Chanukah story, and the heroes who fought so that Israel could be free to worship God again, people talk about Judah Maccabee. Judah was the leader of the army when they regained control of the Temple, but it was his father Mattathias who began their fight for freedom. The historical account of what happened in Israel is recorded in the Book of Maccabees. Whenever I think about Chanukah I am reminded that we need to be Modern Day Maccabees and use our influence for God, just like Mattathias did. When the Syrians arrived in a city, they looked for a man of influence. A person who could be used to lead other people to abandon their faith. In this particular city, Mattathias was the man. They offered Mattathias a very nice bribe to be the first person to abandon his faith. But Mattathias would have nothing to do with this. He not only would not abandon his faith, but he decided to use his influence to get other Jews to remain faithful to God. Mattathias spoke loudly so all could hear; both Syrians and Jews. Mattathias really did have much influence and many people followed him. After Mattathias passed away, his son Judah continued their fight for freedom. Judah received the nickname "Maccabee" which means "hammer." Since he was the leader of the army, all the freedom fighters became known as "Maccabees." Today, even in America, there is an attack on religious freedom. I would like to encourage all of you to be a Modern Day Maccabee and remain true to your faith in God, and to use your influence to help other people follow Him as well. I wrote a Letter to the Editor based on this teaching, and it was printed in the local newspaper during Chanukah. I also recorded this teaching and we gave out at least 30 - 40 cassette tapes (which also has my testimony on the other side of the tape). Please pray that God would use these tapes to minister to the people who have them. Goldberg Family We enjoyed a short visit to Rochester, NY last month. It was great to stay at the Roose’s, and see other friends at Shema Yisrael’s Chanukah Party. Ethel also invited me to join her on her radio show, Bagels & Blessings. I love being on the radio and need to see if I can get a show on Binghamton University’s Radio Station. A friend, who has been on the radio for many years, has offered to direct and co-host a Messianic Show with me. We would probably call it, Jerusalem Gold (with Rabbi Goldberg). Please pray that God would open the doors for this to happen. Caleb got a White Falcon at Royal Rangers, which is an award you receive when you get a certain number of badges. Ravi taught the Teen’s Sunday School at Calvary Baptist. Asha performed (ballet) in the Nutcracker. She had performances both in Binghamton and Elmira. Reva and Gita will start Gymnastics this week. They have wanted to join for a few years, and the Coach is finally ready to accept them. I (Ron) realized that during October and November I was skipping one meal/day, several times a week to help loose the 15 pounds I put on during the Spring and Summer. I wonder if my empty stomach contributed to my problem with acid reflux. I am now eating 3/meals a day, and taking the medicine my Doctor gave me. I have very rarely felt any discomfort. The few times I did, the pain was minimal, and only lasted a very short time. Last week we climbed a mountain. When Vinu was in so much pain after the car accident I used to tell her that later this year she would climb a mountain again. December 31 Vinu climbed a mountain! Thank you God! When we got out of the woods we saw a sign which read, "No trespassing. Sheriff Firing Range." Next time we’ll ask the Sheriff which side of the mountain we can hike on. Thanks In 2006 God was faithful to meet our needs. We brought in about $400 more than we spent. Please pray that God would continue to provide $1,800 every month so that we can continue doing the things God calls us to do. Thank you very much for how you support us through prayer and/or missions support. Ron, Vinu, Ravi, Caleb, Asha, Gita & Reva Goldberg |
