| Franklin Graham Festival
I will be serving on the Special Outreach Committee. This committee is the social outreach of the Festival, meeting practical needs in our community. Since I work for the Rescue Mission, I am involved in providing shelter, food, clothing and other needs for people so I am familiar with the needs in our community, and what can be done to meet these needs. We have already agreed on leaders for most of the committees. |
| Rescue Mission - Another Divine Appointment It was amazing to see how God used us in June. One day we brought Patrick to DSS (Department of Social Services). It’s so wonderful to see him get shelter and be off the streets after so many years of being homeless. Patrick is now going to the Broome-Tioga Workforce and looking for a job. While we were at DSS, an elderly woman (Ausa) asked me if I worked there. I shared that I did not work there, but regularly brought people to DSS to help them get services and to fill out their forms. She then asked me if I would help her fill out her form. Ausa was born in the Philippines and recently lived in San Diego, CA. She had just moved to Binghamton four days before I met her. She only had 3 years of education so she could not read, and could speak very little English. While I was helping her the Supervisor came out to see me. The Supervisor asked what Ausa needed and it turned out that Ausa only needed to fill out a change of address form. The only "problem" was that the form she needed was at the Social Security Office. But God showed Himself amazing once again because I was waiting for Mateo to pick me up and bring me to the Social Security Office where I was scheduled to help another client there in 15 minutes! Needless to say I brought Ausa to the Social Security Office and helped her there. The flood of ‘06 Two weeks ago our region was devastated by terrible floods. Flood levels for many of the sites in our area is about 12 -14 feet. The water level was over 25 feet in many areas of the Susquehanna River. I saw a walking bridge that is normally about 15 - 20 feet above water, covered in water. I saw parks turned into ponds or lakes. In one football field, the water was up to the goal post. In another park, I barely saw the top of the volley ball nets. One of our hospitals was evacuated and just reopened this week. As of July 10, the American Red Cross found a few thousand homes that will either be demolished, or need major cleaning and rebuilding before people can return to their homes. Many businesses have also been destroyed. When the flood waters began coming into our streets and homes, we assisted the Police and Fire Departments in evacuating people from Downtown Binghamton. After the flood waters began to go down, we served people by bringing them back to their homes. Unfortunately, half the people we drove to their homes, we brought right back to the Emergency Shelter. I spent some time one evening encouraging two families we brought back. One family in particular needed much encouragement. Not only did this family loose their home in the flood, but just one week earlier the man lost his job. It’s going to be a long time before life returns to normal in our community. Please pray that God opens many doors for us to minister to people during this difficult time. A new brother in Jesus David was one person we evacuated. After the flood, God allowed us to meet David again. One day Mateo asked him if he believed in Jesus. After just hearing Jonathan Bernis speak abut boldly sharing the Good News, I jumped right in and shared with him. I then asked David if he would accept Yeshua’s invitation to give his life to Him. David agreed, and Mateo and I prayed with him. Please pray that David will grow in his new faith. Messianic Shabbat Service We’ve held a few Shabbat meetings and they have been going well. Each week a new person has come out. God has been answering our prayers at the meetings. One person (Jan) found a place to live and God healed my back in less than 24 hours. People are participating in the meetings and glad that they’ve found a home. Misty and Joshua needed help in making their car payment. We prayed for them, and God put it on someone’s heart to make a monthly payment for them. Please pray that God leads all of us to people to invite to our meetings. Goldberg Family Vinu wants to thank you for your prayers. She is free of pain and beginning to regain her strength. She is starting to lift light things once again. She still gets a little tired, but her recovery is amazing. We are so grateful to you for all your prayers. We went to Messiah 2006 for 2 days, but Ravi spent the entire week at the conference. One evening the Speaker called the young people forward to pray for each other. After the prayer time ended, Ravi, with several other kids whose parents were leaders, continued praying until midnight. The reason they quit at midnight was because the campus required all children to be out of that building by midnight. Security had to come and end the prayer meeting! Thanks Please pray that God would continue to provide $1,800/month. Thank you very much for how you support us through prayer and/or missions support.
